He pulled that old faded clunker right up to the field every game.
It was ugly.
It didn’t look like fun.
But he always got out of it with a smile on his face.
To coach his Bad News Bears.
Our uniforms…a size too big.
Our athletic abilities… subpar at best.
Our opponents… older and bigger.
To Coach Dave… those things didn’t matter.
He knew what mattered.
He and my Dad coached our ugly team with just three goals.
Have fun.
Do our best.
…and win a game.
We succeeded at two of them.
We found… only two were important.
Our wins never came on the scoreboards, but we were undefeated in our hearts.
And as we all piled in that clunker to go get an ice cream after every game.
Only one thing was important.
No one could match the fun we had.
Reflecting on that time 30 years ago reminds me of where people find themselves in the business world today.
Crushing the competition = Success
Bigger = Success
Win at all costs = Success
Deep down you know that’s ugly.
Imagine striving, struggling, and competing less and making more.
More connections, more opportunities, more experiences.
More of what matters.
Imagine focusing time and energy on what gives you the most enjoyment.
Imagine your team having celebrations for the reasons they are great.
Imagine the satisfaction and respect earned from a job well done.
Imagine it being more fun.
Hi, I’m Joe.
I help business owners and professionals like you experience the fun and freedom that your work can offer.
It may look ugly now, but so did the clunker.
But it got Coach Dave to us and us to the ice cream.
