How Traffic Changed My Life.

by | Sep 25, 2020

I screamed as the knife went through my foot.

Well…..It wasn’t actually a knife…. it turned out to be just a toy car left in the hallway. .

That pain sealed the deal,  we were going house shopping.

We found a house we loved, but it was across town.

It meant incorporating the always busy I-95 into my commute.

Many people had done their best to convince me that a commute on I-95, especially going over the Q-bridge, would be a nightmare.

A nightmare commute was NOT what I wanted.

It was almost a deal-breaker.

One morning, before we committed to buying the house, I decided to check out my potential new route.

Could it be as bad as everyone made it out to be?

It turns out there was less traffic than my usual commute that I had done for the last eight years.

Surprisingly, the commute was smooth.

It sealed the deal.

I realized, then and there, that wasn’t the only area of my life that I had let limiting beliefs and opinions of others take root.

These were my examples of the limiting beliefs I used as excuses for not taking action.

  • I don’t have the time.
  • I don’t have the energy.
  • What will others think?
  • I never have enough money.
  • People always hold me back.
  • Should’ve, would’ve, could’ve
  • When the weather gets nice, I’ll…..

I decided right then, that I would use my commutes for quiet introspection.

I made this a habit with my 3 hours per week.

I began correcting years of limiting beliefs simply while I drove.

It helped me gain clarity and freedom, and it all began — in the comfort of my car.

Once in a while, I look forward to a traffic jam.
