Well…. That was interesting.
Nothing like a worldwide pandemic to spend a year.
I saw many people struggle.
Lose their livelihood, their income.
I saw people transform.
Pivoting into a new career.
Working from home.
I also saw people win, like really win.
I’m not talking about money.
I’m talking about clarity.
Getting clear on what was essential and what was not.
Many things were off-limits to us this year.
Many things though, made a comeback.
Time with our families, and our closest friends.
Home cooked or home delivered meals around the table.
Time talking to each other, checking-in.
Supporting each other.
Needing one another.
Sympathizing with one another.
I saw much giving.
Whether it was supporting a local business.
A food drive for local families in need,
A traveling DJ spreading good cheer in the town.
Or free classes offered to help the technologically challenged use Zoom.
We came together.
We were kinder.
We were a little more patient, even though it was a challenge hearing through the plexi-glass and talking through the mask.
The masks…Ah the masks.
We wore the masks (whether we agreed or not)
out of kindness for the less healthy and compromised people among us.
As I write this, I thought about how much fun our Zoom Easter celebration was. We got creative. We used our tools to get enjoyment and a sense of normalcy in an abnormal time.
My neighbor Pete put it the best when he said,
“The worst thing that can come out of all this is that we all don’t learn SOMETHING.”
That has been my mission since my wise neighbor said it.
Learn something through everything.
Find the lesson.
Life moves fast, no big news there.
But as it moves, make damn sure you are moving in joy, peace, happiness, and freedom.
Cheers to a Happy and Clear New Year.
May we all remember the lessons we learned in 2020.
