God was looking for a pizza man

by | Apr 10, 2021

This week, I heard that Gary Bimonte, a co-owner of the iconic Frank Pepe’s Pizza on Wooster St. in New Haven had passed away.

I never met him and I was curious to learn about him.

I looked at his obituary and the funeral home website guest book.

I checked his Facebook page.

I learned from the many kind messages how kind and giving Gary was, how enthusiastic and passionate he was about life.

How he treated others.

He was a spiritual man that encouraged others to see the beauty in this world.

Not one person mentioned how successful Pepe’s had become.

I didn’t know him, but I do now.

Despite all of the success of his business,

He was a caring human that liked to inspire and help others.

In the end that’s all that matters.

Pepe’s closed for one day and will keep right on going, business as usual.

The machine will never stop.

The sadness will be for a season.

I’m sure the grieving will turn to joy.

He will be a light that the ones that knew him best will have in their hearts forever.

It is sad to lose an icon.

It is sad to lose anyone.

This is why it’s important to make every moment count for something.

Our businesses do not define us.

How we treat others and help make others’ lives a little better than they were before is our goal.

The depth of passion, and intention that we live with will last eternally.

By what I read, Gary did just that, and I believe he will get a “job well done” when he gets to Heaven.

From one New Haven guy to another.

Rest In Peace Gary.

I didn’t meet you on Earth, but if they have a pizzeria in Heaven, I’ll pay a visit.

I guess God was looking for a pizza man.

I just hope He has a coal oven.
